Payment cards and smartcard printing

Payment cards production requires a complex manufacturing process, that involves multiple steps. In this page, we present hardware related to smartcard production and payment card production.

The first step is the design phase: a graphic designer works to create a design that fits the brand's identity and meets the security requirements. Features such as holograms, embossed text, or magnetic stripes are added in this phase.

The information is then sent to a card manufacturer, that starts the production process using a card printer. The design is printed onto a sheet of plastic using a specialized printing device. The plastic sheet is then laminated to improve its durability and resistance.

The production process also requires to add all the necessary security features to the physical card: an embedded microchip, a magnetic stripe, etc.

The card is then personalized with the cardholder name and their PAN number, using a laser engraver.
