TAS. Micro-services platform for payment innovation

Multiple financial institutions (including, for example: Unipol Pay and Credem) have adopted the new TAS’ solution that innovates payment in a PaaS logic, leveraging the quickly integrated cloud and micro-services applications. But new trends are arriving, and TAS also looks at Request-to-Pay, to the world of capital market and securities back office

Credem is one of the first Italian banks to go through this evolution by relying on TAS. «Payments are an important component of the banking business, but the technology, the regulations and new developments are bringing many banks, especially medium-size ones, to delegate this activity to specialized companies - says Valentino Bravi, CEO of TAS. The goal is to stay aligned to regulations and, at the same time, innovate in the world of payments, through evolved applicative solutions and keeping the costs low».

The cloud that speaks with core banking

TAS has therefore created a cloud service that communicates with core banking, in outsourcing and also in white label way for banks: a hub containing about seventy modules, from payments to monetics, going through anti-fraud evolved solutions, cash and digital payment management. These modules, easily integrable in a short amount of time thanks to API interfaces, allow to speed up the production times of new services and manage them in a scalable way. «The great advantage of the cloud is its ability to communicate not only with core banking, but with all legacy systems - highlights Bravi. Also, thanks to the presence of various modules, we also follow the strategy dictated by the banks, which sees a gradual path of evolution toward cloud computing and new platform logics».

Coexistence with legacy

Normally, the first steps are only in regard to payment, or monetics: «meanwhile, the two systems, cloud and legacy, must coexist - explains Bravi. Nevertheless, there are great advantages: our issuing platform, which manages over 120 million cards in Italy and abroad, has been created to work on two environments, offering emission services and a series of solutions that simplify card management».

Evolved systems against frauds

Moreover, TAS has created an anti-fraud system that leverages machine learning mechanisms and artificial intelligence algorithms with neural systems to intercept red flags. «Especially in order to reduce false positives, which will then influence costs - points out Bravi. The solution is integrated for account based payments, not just digital, and offers a unique vision on activities, leveraging various data sources».

Request-to-Pay: an already integrated solution

But the payment market is in constant evolution and TAS, present for over 40 years, has set the goal to anticipate the innovations of a rapidly changing world. «Among the latest trends there’s Request-to-Pay, a solution that we have already integrated in our offer and will allow banks to enter production without worrying about the technological aspect - highlight Bravi. The bank must remain focused on the core business, behind it is a factory that ensures the evolutions of application solutions, to offer new services."

Technological outsourcing for the capital market

TAS has also created a solution for the world of capital market, addressing the need of many banks, which are trying to externalize the technological platform to dedicate more quality time to core business.

Cloud for securities back office

Work has already begun on a new project for 2024, with a pilot customer and a number of banks already interested in the solution. It is an application for securities back office. "Thanks to a purchase transaction from the Allitude Group, we have designed a solution for the securities back office, which allows applications to be integrated through native cloud microservices, in a Platform as a Service perspective," Bravi concludes. The solution is integrated with banking systems for master records, checking accounts and so on, and we will be able to offer very innovative technology at competitive prices, with modules that can be customized to specific needs."

Turn-key payments

The PaaS solution, created by TAS, is also dedicated to new players, such as electronic money institutions and corporate companies, which can operate as a Bank of Italy-authorized IMEL to enter this market, leveraging a comprehensive, turnkey service. «They can develop innovative use cases to build loyalty and win new customers," Bravi points out, "as well as handle account-based, wallet and card payments.
